Korogocho Slum in Nairobi has 200’000 people depending on 37 schools, all of them with terrible sanitary conditions except the ones already renovated with our local partner MAT. Your donation is going to help to improve the wellbeing of the people of Korogocho by providing safe sanitation and handwashing stations. All latrines will be equipped with the new sensors and AI-enabled system developed by Mobile Alert Toilets (MAT) together with Kenyan and Swiss Partners.

We have already worked with our local partners on four schools in the Korogocho slum, for more details please click here. The results are quite impressive:

BEFORE

Ryeeda CBO school in Korogocho Slum, Nairobi, Kenya, used to rely on a run down latrine overflowing with sludge. The latrine, pictured on the left, was a health risk to the children and staff. In addition, no handwashing facility existed.

AFTER

Now, the smart sensor systems installed in MAT’s container-based, waterless latrine system sends automated alerts when the latrine is reaching capacity. This allows their team to come to dispose of the waste in a safe and sustainable way. Low-water flow handwashing stations developed by MSR Global Health have also been installed. They are operated by foot pumps and have soap dispensers.
